The project
The current branding is not distinct or unique enough for a premium gin brand. Following branding and competitor research, I designed a series of 3 gin bottles and boxes which included a re-design of their logo. The outcome of this re-packaging aims to be distinctive, authentic and premium to allow the project to stand out against competitors on the shelf. The design is inspired by traditional Icelandic embroidery patterns to reflect the authentic and premium taste of Martin Miller’s Gin, which is the only gin in the market to be blended with pure Icelandic water.

research
Martin Miller's Gin has a premium, quality taste to it whilst being the only gin in the current market to blend their gin with pure Icelandic spring water. I carried out competitor researchto see what brands do visually. Current brands in the market use a lot of botanical illustrations to design their packaging, therefore I chose to avoid this route and create a more distinct, unique visual design to follow.

process
This project began with many sketches and iterations of possible design ideas, exploring the series design. I had two concepts which was either illustrating botanicals in the gin flavour or going down the more authentic route and creating a design inspired by Iceland. I explored ideas sketching the northern lights pattern and glacial streams, however I found that this would be difficult to carry across the series of flavours. The strongest concept chose to go forward was inspired by traditional Icelandic embroidery patterns. Below is the process I took to re-create the embroidery pattern in the cross-stitch effect on Illustrator. This was initial colour selection for the pattern which was later explored to the final colour scheme chosen.

the outcome
The re-brand of Martin Miller’s Gin introduces a new visual identity that reflects the authenticity of their Icelandic brand. The embroidery pattern is embraced through a cross-stitch effect, ensuring it is distinctive compared to other gin brands on the market. Silver foiling, dark colours and serif typography reflect the premium and quality taste of Martin Miller’s Gin. The series of gin uses different embroidery patterns across different flavours of gin, allowing them to be seen individually whilst still being recognised as part of a collection.
